Curlers fuel Timmins food banks

New Horizons Seniors' Curling League boasts more than 170 members

A Timmins curling league is fuelling the local food banks.

The New Horizons Seniors' Curling League donated $1,497 to the Timmins Food Bank and South Porcupine Food Bank in December.

The league started in 1981 and is still going strong, with more than 170 members.

It's a mixed league for recreational curlers 50 years and older. Experience is not required to join as there are clinics for people new to curling. The oldest active curler is 92 years old!

The club has supported the local food banks for a number of years.

"It is customary during the month of December that we ask our members to make a cash donation in support of our local food banks. Since 2020, our members have generously donated more than $12,500, split equally between the South Porcupine Food Bank and the Timmins Food Bank. We are proud of our members who continually exceed all expectations," reads a news release.
