Timmins residents will be all smiles beginning Monday, Sept. 11, as they will get the chance to satisfy their sweet tooth while benefiting a good cause.

The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Smile Cookie Campaign is an annual campaign which, in partnership with local Tim Hortons franchises, raises funds for programming in Timmins and surrounding area. Last year’s campaign raised just over $27,000.

“This year, the goal is to raise as much money as we can. If we can surpass last year’s amount, that’s just a bonus,” said Timmins Police DARE officer Rick Lemieux. He added that the money raised from the campaign helps to ensure that every student in Timmins is reached through the program.

“It ensures that no student is left behind. The funds are so important because they allow us to reach a large number of students on an annual basis, both in the Grade 6 and Grade 8 program. The campaign is essential to our fundraising efforts.”

This year’s Smile Cookie Campaign runs from Monday, Sept. 11 to Sunday, Sept. 17. Cookies can be purchased at any local Tim Hortons location for $1, with all proceeds going to local DARE programming. Cookies can also be ordered in advance using the order form on the Timmins Police Service’s website.
