If you’re new to the city or just looking to discover a new program or service, Welcome to Timmins Night is where you need to be.
“Welcome to Timmins night is an annual event that provides the opportunity for non-profit organizations to showcase their services and programs to the community,” said Ashley Dickinson, Timmins Multicultural Centre strategic initiatives and outreach intern.
The 25th annual event featuring about 120 exhibitors is taking place Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the McIntyre Curling Club from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
“We have a lot of new booths this year compared to former years, things like the Venture Centre, Dante Club to the snowmobile club to therapy dogs and everything in between," she said.
Usually about 1,000 people stop by the two-hour event.
With a high response rate and organic reach on Facebook, this year Dickinson is hoping for a bigger turnout.
Over the years, downtown Timmins BIA executive director Noella Rinaldo said the event has built up.
“I find every year it’s just gotten crazier and crazier with the people coming in and they enjoy all the information that they get, so it’s great,” she said.
Even for people who have lived here for a while, the night is an opportunity to learn something new.
Rinaldo noted if you’re in a new point in your life, or are looking for something new for the kids, the event could have the answers.
“Every year there’s somebody new and there’s more to look for,” she said.
Admission is free. Donations of a teddy bear for the EMS, or non-perishable food for the food banks is being collected at the door, however.
