Ahead of the writ dropping for the Ontario election, PC leader Doug Ford is making a stop in Timmins.

Ford will be at Cedar Meadows Resort tomorrow (Tuesday, May 1) at noon to make an announcement, and meet with local residents.

Yvan Genier was acclaimed as the PC candidate for the new Timmins riding at a nomination meeting last week.

The other known candidate vying the Timmins seat in the June 7 election is incumbent NDP Gilles Bisson. The Liberals are expected to announce their candidate this week.

Tuesday's event will be the second time Ford is in the city in recent months.

He met with members of the local riding association back in March during his leadership bid.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath was also in town over the winter. During that tour she talked healthcare, anti-racism work, the Ring of Fire and more.

When Ontarians head to the polls June 7, it will be the first time local residents elect an MPP for the new riding of Timmins.

The boundaries for the current riding of Timmins-James Bay were redefined and split into two last year. With Timmins on its own, the second new riding of Mushkegowuk-James Bay includes communities along Highway 11 from Smooth Rock Falls to Hearst and extends north to Peawanuck.
