With roads closing due to spring flooding, Timmins Police is reminding drivers of the potential consequences of ignoring the closures.

Yesterday, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning for Porcupine Lake and Mattagami River.

"In light of unpredictable water levels in the City of Timmins and surrounding area, the need for roadway closures will be undertaken for public safety reasons," reads a notice from police.

It notes that barricades in affected areas will restrict access to roads.

"Motorists found on closed roadways will, depending on the circumstances, be served with an Offence Notices under the applicable section of the Highway Traffic Act which carry monetary fines and 3 demerit points‎," said police.

"The anticipated cooperation of the motoring public is appreciated by the Timmins Police Service."
