An Enbridge Gas donation is boosting training for the Timmins Fire Department.
The local department has received $5,000 from the company through Project Assist.
Enbridge utility services and construction advicor Andrew Kitaj said it's a program the company has been supporting for eight years.
"This educational initiative helps fire departments and the communities we serve purchase materials that will enhance life-saving fire fighting techniques and since its inception in 2012 has provided more than 170 grants for training materials,” he said.
He explained the training materials are to promote natural gas safety and ensure the community is kept safe.
“This funding is for things such as equipment and training that will help give the people who protect us the support they need,” said Kitaj.
Fire Chief Tom Laughren said they'll be taking a look at how the $5,000 can be best spent.
He added that Enbridge has always been a great community partner.
“When you look at the opportunities that they’ve provided to the Timmins Fire Department, training is key for all our firefighters whether you’re professional or volunteer. Protection of the community and those assets and obviously Enbridge with the assets they have in our community is a big part of it. For us it means an opportunity to look at either material or some hands on training that we may not have been able to do without that donation,” he said.
