The Every Child Matters flag is once again flying at city hall.
A group of people turned up to see the orange flag raised in Timmins ahead of the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — also known as Orange Shirt Day — on Sept. 30.
In Timmins, a transit bus is now orange and features the Every Child Matters logo. All city-owned electronic billboards have also been turned orange and have the Every Child Matters logo. The McIntyre Headframe will be lit with orange lights.
"The Orange the City campaign was created by the city's Indigenous Advisory Committee to recognize the legacy of the residential school system and how it continues to impact Indigenous families and communities today," said Mayor Kristin Murray in a news release.
"Though our actions today cannot erase the trauma of the past, we can foster understanding and support activities that work towards reconciliation."
An Orange Shirt Day Walk is being held on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre, 178 Kirby Ave. It starts at 11 a.m.
