Extendicare Kirkland Lake has declared a COVID-19 outbreak.

What was a suspected outbreak on Level 2 has moved to a confirmed outbreak, according to a Facebook post published by the organization on Monday (Jan. 8).

“Extendicare Kirkland Lake is working closely with the Timiskaming Health Unit and taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent transmission within our home,” they wrote.

Extendicare Kirkland Lake has previously experienced COVID-19 outbreaks since 2020.

While visitation has not been restricted, visitors are required to wear masks when visiting.

“All visitors and staff are to passively screen themselves for symptoms prior to entering the home and practice effective hand hygiene. Do not visit if you are ill,” reads the update.

Due to the outbreak, there will be no Christmas luncheon on Jan. 11.
