Extendicare Kirkland Lake has a suspected enteric outbreak.
The organization took to their Facebook page on Saturday (Jan. 20) to announce the suspected outbreak within their facility on Level 3.
According to the Porcupine Health Unit, an enteric outbreak includes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
On Jan. 8, Extendicare announced a COVID-19 outbreak on Level 2 within the facility, which according to Saturday’s update, is still ongoing.

“Extendicare Kirkland Lake is working closely with the Timiskaming Health Unit and taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent transmission within our home,” they wrote.
While visitation has not been restricted at this time, all visitors are required to wear a mask when with residents or on any units.
“All visitors and staff are to passively screen themselves for symptoms prior to entering the home and practice effective hand hygiene. Do not visit if you are ill,” reads the update.
As of Jan. 16, there were 25 active cases of COVID-19 in the Timiskaming Health Unit region.
According to the Porcupine Health Unit, Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing has had an active COVID-19 outbreak since Jan. 13. Similarly, Golden Manor in Timmins declared a COVID-19 and RSV outbreak on Jan. 5 and an Influenza A outbreak on Jan. 17, all of which are still ongoing.
