Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Timmins and surrounding area.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:
- Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake
- Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls
- Fraserdale - Pledger Lake
- Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls
A period of very cold wind chills is expected.
Hazards:
Wind chill values near minus 40.
Minimum temperatures between minus 32 and minus 34 degrees Celsius.

Wind chill values near minus 40 have developed early this morning and are expected to moderate near midday.
Impacts:
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
