TIMMINS - With the windchill bringing the temperatures below -40C, an extreme cold warning remains in effect on Monday.
The extreme cold is expected to last into Tuesday afternoon in Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls, according to the Environment Canada alert.
"Relief from extreme cold is expected to be limited even during the daytime hours when temperatures typically moderate," reads the alert.
At 9 a.m. today (Jan. 20), Environment Canada recorded the temperature at -39.1C with ice crystals, which could set a record for Jan. 20. The previous low recorded for today was back in 1943 when it was -34.4C.
People needing shelter from the cold today can go to the emergency shelter Living Space at 316 Spruce St. S.
