More than 80 people attended

TIMMINS - The first social night for a new Women in Mining chapter sold out.

Women In Mining Timmins hosted its first mentor and networking event this week, bringing together more than 80 women in the mining industry.

They heard from Newmont's Borden Mine superintendent Janice Wallgren, Canada Nickel geologist Karen Alvarez and Lake Shore Gold procurement supervisor Molly Myagmarbat.

“This event was a fantastic opportunity for women in mining to connect, learn, and grow,” said Hillary Laughren, Timmins chapter co-chair, in a news release. “We were thrilled to have such accomplished panelists share their experiences and insights.”

The dinner was covered by Newmont Porcupine and Minister of Mines and Timmins MPP George Pirie stopped by.

“We are so pleased with the turnout and the positive feedback from attendees,” said Gabriella Desmarais, the chapter co-chair. “This event demonstrates the growing strength of the Women in Mining Timmins chapter and our commitment to supporting women in the sector.”

The branch is facilitated by the Timmins Chamber and CIM Porcupine Branch. Its goal empowering women in the mining industry and provide opportunities for professional growth, mentorship and networking.
