COCHRANE - The owner of a floating home found on the Abitibi River last year has been fined.

Pierre Robin of Cochrane pleaded guilty to having a floating accommodation on water covering public lands, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). He was fined $1,500 and ordered to remove the structure and all related materials.

The case was heard remotely in court on June 4 by Justice of the Peace Jean-Marie Blier.

On Oct. 23, 2023, conservation officers found a floating accommodation on the Abitibi River.

"The officers determined the floating accommodation belonged to Pierre Robin and that the structure had been at the location for three years, including over the winter months where it would freeze in place. Regulated by the Public Lands Act, floating accommodations cannot be placed or used on public lands covered by water," reads the MNRF news release.
