Flood warning issued for Mattagami River

Residences are not expected to be impacted yet, says committee

A flood warning has been issued for the Mattagami River watershed, specifically the Mattagami River.

It alert was issued today (May 2, 2023) and is in effect until May 9, unless it is updated before then.

"The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee reports that water levels on rivers and streams throughout the watershed continue to rise steadily in response to the recent rain. The exact extent of the flooding is difficult to predict at this time and will depend on the weather in the coming days," reads the warning.

"Over the next 24 hours low-lying areas may experience nuisance flooding. No residences are expected to be impacted at this point in time. Everyone living in or near a flood hazard area is encouraged to monitor the conditions that are developing and to take the appropriate actions to protect their property."

The committee is monitoring the water flows and elevations.
