Fire crews are battling a forest fire in the north end of Timmins.

Since last night's provincial forest fire update, two fires have been reported in the Timmins district today (Aug. 22).

The most recent one is out Highway 655 past Laforest Road. It's on the west side of the road before Bigwater Lake (which is on the east side of the road). According to the Ontario forest fire map, it started around 12:15 p.m. today and is estimated to be a hectare in size. It is not under control.

Big Water Campground, which is also out Highway 655, has taken to social media to ask its campers to restrict using the lake to allow the water bombers to access it.

The first fire reported in the Timmins district today is in the very west end of the area.

Timmins 15 is out Highway 101 east of Foleyet near Hoodoo Lake. It's estimated at 0.3 hectares and is not under control. It started just before 10 a.m. today.

Two fires continue to burn northwest of Kamiskotia Lake.

Timmins 13 started around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 21. It's reported as being two hectares in size and not under control. The nearby Timmins 14 fire is .2 hectares in size and is being held.
