Guy Blanchard says it did not matter what the task was, Hector Seguin was willing to do it.
"You could give him any responsibilities to do. He took everything to the max and spent countless hours on fundraisers and was an amazing hockey man. He did whatever you needed," recalls Blanchard.
The retired teacher from Verner spent time working with Blanchard when he was operating junior teams in both Sturgeon Falls and North Bay.
Seguin filled many roles during his time working in the NOJHL and eventually took on the position of commissioner. Seguin passed away on Tuesday following a lengthy illness.
"He was well respected as a school teacher, dad, grandfather, or hockey man. It is sad to see him go and people will miss him," added Blanchard.
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League sent out a statement Wednesday morning following his passing.
"The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, and each of its member clubs, are mourning the loss of former commissioner Hector Sequin, who passed away Tuesday at age 75," the league stated in a release.
Seguin served as NOJHL commissioner in both 2006-07, as well as from 2008-11, and played a pivotal role in it for well over two decades.
Beginning his involvement with the league back in 1994, he began a 25-year association with the NOJHL.
First serving as an assistant manager with the Sturgeon Falls Lynx, Seguin later became a NOJHL board member while representing the North Bay Sky Hawks.
He was later appointed director of hockey operations and treasurer of the league as well as holding many other prominent roles in his tenure, including NOJHL administration officer and secretary.
Seguin also previously held a seat as a director, on the board of the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
Earning induction into the builder’s category of the West Nipissing Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, he was recognized for his over 40-plus years of involvement in hockey, from a player; coach; administrator; founder; director of operations; commissioner, and as a president.
"The NOJHL extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to Hector’s family and friends, in this time of loss," the release continued.
