Four new wildfires confirmed in northeast

Hazard is predominantly high to extreme for most of the area with total burns now at 25, AFFES says in report

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services for the Northeast Fire Region says in a news release that four new wildfires were confirmed by late afternoon on Aug. 6.

  • Cochrane 28 (COC028) is a 10-hectare fire located near the northern shore of Missisa Lake. It was confirmed Tuesday morning and is being observed.
  • Wawa 12 (WAW012) is being held at 0.3 of a hectare and is located approximately eight kilometres north of Goudreau.
  • Sudbury 20 (SUD020) measures 0.1 of a hectare and is located west of Page Lake, and approximately two kilometres north of Long Lake.
  • Parry Sound 6 (PAR006) is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. It is located southeast of Fourmile Island.

That brings the number of wildland fires in the region to 25 with 17 being observed, three under control, one held and four out of control.

The fire hazard is predominantly high to extreme for most of the Northeast Region. Areas located south and east of Lake Nipissing within the fire region are showing a mostly low to moderate forest fire hazard.
