Getting out to support downtown Timmins will be a little easier on the wallet next month.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays in July, on-street parking at metres downtown is free. The move is to support the Downtown Timmins BIA's Urban Park on Wednesdays and the Urban Market on Thursdays.
"Anything we can do to help the downtown and the merchants and provide our residents with the ability to participate in some of these great outings that are going on, I think it’s great and I’ll fully support that,” said Coun. Lorne Feldman at the June 27 Timmins council meeting.
Because of the Connecting Link work on Algonquin Boulevard and the detours, this year's activities are on Cedar Street South between Third Avenue and Second Avenue. That section of the road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the days of the BIA events.
The Urban Park runs Wednesdays from July 5 to Aug. 23. The market is Thursdays from July 6 to Sept. 28.
The free park at on-street metres is in effect on July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 26 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
