Genier opens campaign office (2 photos)

PC candidate wants to listen to people

Yvan Genier is ready to go.

“I’m going to be seeing everybody as much as I can, it is a short campaign everything’s going to happen real fast, but I plan on going knocking on everyone’s door trying to gather up support. And in fact what I want to do is listen to people,” said the Timmins PC candidate.

Genier, a 46-year-old financial advisor for the Knights of Columbus, opened his campaign office, located at 190 Third Ave.

He said he’s ready to stand up for people and tap into the city’s potential.

“Gilles is trying to fight for Timmins, but is not being heard. We’ve heard that for 28 years now, the party that is in Toronto, that are making the decisions, if that party is not the same as the party that’s in Timmins, nothing is going to happen. We need to have the same party here and it’s the Conservative party that we know that’s going to take power in Toronto at Queen’s Park and me being here with the Conservative party as well, on the same side, I’m going to have a better relationship with them,” Genier said.

After his father died in January, health care is one of the main reasons Genier stepped up to run for the PCs.

“I don’t want to just dwell on that, but there are a lot of people that have lived through the same as what I did and…I want to make sure that their loved ones are taken care of while they’re alive before they have to go through what my father did,” Genier said.

Hydro rates are another issue, with his campaign office opening including the shredding of a hydro bill.

Since the writ for the provincial election was issued Wednesday, signs of the campaign have been popping up across the city.

So far, there are four candidates vying for the MP for the new Timmins riding.

Incumbent NDP Gilles Bisson is opening his campaign office located at 170 Third Ave. today (May 12) at 1 p.m.

Mickey Auger is the Liberal candidate, and Gary Schaap is running for the Northern Ontario Party.

Election day in Ontario is June 7.
