With speculation swirling over who'll be throwing their hat in the ring for mayor, a new face has emerged.
Former mining executive George Pirie is running for the mayor’s seat in Timmins.
At a news conference today to announce his candidacy, the South Porcupine native said this campaign is about fiscal responsibility and respect for the taxpayers.
“If elected, what I offer is a commitment of open, transparent and honest dealings with and for the citizens of Timmins. I offer a pledge to continue to work hard to secure a sustainable, affordable future for all our stakeholders. I offer a promise to treat the taxpayers and their tax dollars with the respect they deserve, to be fiscally responsible with their finances,” said Pirie.
The other candidates so far are Steve Black, Daniel Fortin and Mickey Auger.
The nomination period for the municipal election ends Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Election day is Oct. 22.
