NEWS RELEASE

ROLAND MICHENER SECONDARY AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

*************************
Operation Food Bank

The students, teachers, and educational assistants of Roland Michener Secondary and Elementary School will be going door to door next week in Schumacher, South Porcupine and Porcupine to collect non-perishable food for the South Porcupine Food Bank.

The food drive will be held on Friday, May 20 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The Food Bank especially needs bread, milk, canned meats, baby food, peanut butter, canned veggies and fruit, pasta, rice and cereal. However all non-perishable items are useful. Please donate generously when we come to your home, or leave food visible on your front porch for collection.

Food banks are very important, not only to our community but also throughout Ontario. Statistics indicate that more than 300,000 people in Ontario rely on food banks for at least part of every month. Children, people with disabilities and working people make up a staggering proportion of those served by food banks in Ontario.

Approximately 40 percent of those served by our food banks are children, over 20 percent are persons with disabilities, and 19.7 percent work or have recently lost their jobs.
