Golden Avenue Public School is closed today due to the fire at the nearby Good Samaritan Inn Homeless Shelter.
District School Board Ontario North East communications officer Andreanne Denis said the school is closed because of a power outage in the area.
"All staff and students are safe," she wrote in an email. "Staff are currently contacting families to pick up students who were already on the bus when the closure happened. Once all students have been picked up, the staff will relocate to either Roland Michener of Bertha Shaw for the day."
The fire at the homeless shelter broke out just before 4 a.m. today.
