NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION
*************************
On March 10, members of the Timmins Construction Association (TCA) gathered at the Porcupine Dante Club for the Annual General Meeting and Safety Awards to move and ratify the organization's official business. During the luncheon, attendees heard a virtual presentation from BuildForce Canada, distributed safety awards, in partnership with Infrastructure Health & Safety Association's (IHSA) to 29 local businesses and witnessed the Presidential exchange, hearing from outgoing President Shawn Tyson of Polar Bear Windows and Doors Timmins, who handed the chair over to Jamie Clarke of Tisdale Mechanical Contracting.

The annual event kicked off with a virtual presentation by Bill Ferreira, Executive Director of BuildForce Canada, who provided an overview of Northern Ontario's Assessment of Construction Labour Markets from 2022 to 2027. Ferreira noted that overall, residential constructions and investment would remain driven by renovations, with new home constructions making up a smaller share, but the future of construction in the region is strong—however, the total employment declines continue to impact the industry.

The AGM also saw the ratification of a new board and a new TCA President:

  • Jamie Clarke, President 2022-2024
  • Brian Bielaskie, Treasurer
  • Rick Racicot
  • Ashley Richards-Gagnon
  • John Delost
  • Mark Norkum Jr.
  • Shawn Tyson, Past-President
  • Marc Ladouceur
  • Dan Dambremont
  • Mitch Gagnon
  • Brent Armitage
  • Dan Chenier

In his outgoing message as now Past President, Shawn Tyson noted, "Our construction sector remains strong. Despite several challenges brought on by the pandemic and supply chain challenges, Timmins businesses are still completing projects and are in high demand." Serving as President from 2020-2022, he went on to mention that the TCA saw the onboarding of new members and the launch of our new brand—something that brings the TCA into the 21st century and into new digital capabilities.

"Overall, the TCA had an excellent year, and as we look to introduce new initiatives in support of development in Timmins, my departing words to Jamie Clarke would be that I wish him luck and that he's well-positioned to continue leading our Association. It's been a pleasure serving as your President, and I want to say a big thank you to the Board of directors for their support. Thank you, also, to the membership for their investment, and I look forward to serving you in my new role as Past-president," added Tyson.

The afternoon event culminated in the annual TCA Safety Awards presented by Karen Hermant of the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association and Ashley Richards-Gagnon, Board Director for the TCA. Photos of the event and the award recipients can be found online.
