Hearst NOHFC stop delivers $2.5M for 12 projects

HEARST - The provincial government has announced over $2.5 million for 12 projects in the Hearst region. 

Minister of Northern Development Greg Rickford has been on a tour of the North this week, making stops to announce Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) funding.

"We recognize that by funding local businesses and community infrastructure projects, we make a lasting impact on local economic development, and on those who call this region home," he said in a news release about the Hearst stop. 

The project funding announced at the Nov. 20 event is: 

  • $500,000 for Moose Cree First Nation to upgrade the community heating infrastructure by replacing its fossil-fuel based heating system with a renewable, biomass-powered heating system, which will lower heating costs for the First Nation
  • $460,769 for the Kapuskasing Golf Club to buy equipment and its clubhouse
  • $435,006 for the Town of Smooth Rock Falls to repair the Reg Lamy Cultural Centre 
  • $271,614 for Diversified Forestry Inc. to buy equipment to meet the growing demand for mulching, brush clearing, land clearing and line cutting services
  • $200,000 for the Township of Opasatika to renovate and upgrade The Community Hub 
  • $179,872 for the Township of Moonbeam to build an addition to its cultural centre, improving the space to allow for more exhibits and hands-on art experiences
  • $150,000 for Cedric Lacroix to buy forestry equipment 
  • $103,600 for 2796866 Ontario Inc. to buy equipment and build a hay storage dome to meet the growing demand for hay in Northern Ontario 
  • $123,000 for Boissoneault Logging Inc. to purchase equipment to provide harvesting and skidding services, as well as customized solutions to forestry clients
  • $76,000 for Virtucore Builders Ltd. to renovate the office and build a storage warehouse to help with inventory management and avoid supply chain issues
  • $29,134 for Kapuskasing Curling to purchase equipment to make it easier for the organization to install, maintain and remove the curling ice each year
  • $19,584 for Le samaritain du nord Hearst to renovate its food bank facility and purchase equipment to improve its food distribution system and provide better service to its customers.
