TIMMINS - Council costs increased seven per cent in 2024.

The numbers are in for Timmins council in 2024. At $420,969.10, it's the highest it's been in the last five years. It's $28,875.41 more than 2023 when the total was $392,093.69.

Municipalities must reveal how much council members were paid in salary and expenses annually. The remuneration report is on the agenda for the March 18 council meeting. It also includes what members were paid for committee work.

The expenses are for conferences, travel and training, though the report from director of finance Natalie Moore does not break down what conferences or training council members attended. It also notes that the remuneration includes taxable benefits for vehicle, mobile phone and home internet allowances.

In 2024, Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau's total council salary and expenses was $126,373.77.

Including the boards and those expenses, her total remuneration was $140,028.88. That's an increase of $4,303 from the year prior.

Below is a look at the remuneration and expenses for each council member. While there are a number of boards listed, council members do not sit on every board.

Attendance is not included in the report, but TimminsToday took a look at council attendance in 2024.

Of the 20 regular meetings last year, there were only five meetings where all the members were there. The following graph includes who was at the regular council meetings based on the attendance noted in the meeting minutes.
