High-risk COVID-19 exposure on Polar Bear Express

A potential high-risk COVID-19 exposure has been issued for a Moosonee train. 

The Porcupine Health Unit has issued an advisory for the Friday, Dec. 17 Ontario Polar Bear Express from Cochrane to Moosonee that left at 9 a.m.

Regardless of vaccination status, people who sat in coach five should self-isolate for 10 days from the exposure and self-monitor for symptoms. They should also get tested immediately and again on Dec. 24. 

Other people on the train are advised to self-monitor for symptoms for 10 days from the potential exposure and get tested if any symptoms develop.

Symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, loss of taste or smell, difficulty breathing, tiredness, muscle aches and pain, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, abdominal pain, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, decreased or lack of appetite, headache and pink eye.

Today, the Porcupine Health Unit reported 15 new cases in the region, including one in the James Bay area.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
