The return of winter weather has led to road closures.

As of 6:15 p.m. today (March 16), these are the road closures in the area:

  • Highway 11 is closed in both directions between Clear Lake Road in Kapuskasing and Western Avenue (Highway 579) in Cochrane. It started around 4:45 p.m.
  • Highway 655 is closed between Timmins and Highway 11 in Driftwood. It started just before 6 p.m.
  • Highway 144 is closed between Timmins and the Watershed (Highway 560). It started just before 6 p.m.
  • Highway 101 is closed between Timmins and Wawa. That closure started around 2 p.m. between Foleyet and Wawa and was extended to Timmins just before 6 p.m.

After a couple of days of spring-like weather, winter has returned to the area.

The Environment Canada weather alerts currently in effect are:

  • Flash freeze warning - Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Gogama and Foleyet. The rain and snowmelt is expected to freeze suddenly this afternoon into this evening. A cold front has the rain turning to snow, which will make ice surfaces difficult to detect. Travel may be hazardous due to the sudden change in weather.
  • Snowfall warning - Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Chapleau, Gogama, Foleyet, Kapuskasing, Hearst, and Smooth Rock Falls. About 15 centimetres of snow is expected into this evening.

Up-to-date road conditions are available at 511on.ca.
