The province is delivering over $1.8 million for Timmins and District Hospital.
The cash will help support more on-call funding to allow for more stable after-hours coverage, according to the announcement from Timmins MPP George Pirie's office.
“Our community and district is cared for by an amazing and dedicated group of associate and locum physicians and specialists, and this additional funding allows our hospital to further support the important work they do. Our hospital is very appreciative to receive these funds, ensuring that patients in Timmins and surrounding districts have access to the quality care they need, as close to home as possible," said Kate Fyfe, TDH president and CEO, in a news release.
Pirie said Timmins deserves high-quality healthcare.
“This additional base funding will allow our hospital to fund more after hours on-call care that will provide more flexibility to meet the unique needs of our community. I am thrilled to be part of a government that is working for the people to get them the care they need any time of day," he said in the announcement.
The one-time funding follows through on earlier agreements between the Ontario Medical Association and Ontario Ministry of Health to increase funding dedication to on-call physicians.
