The local humane society has pinned down extra cash.

Rock Solid Wrestling Timmins donated the $2,575 raised at its Spring Meltdown event to the Timmins and District Humane Society.

Along with the donation, humane society volunteers were at the event to collect dog and cat food, toys, laundry detergent and cash from wrestling fans.

Nearly 500 people were at the event held at École secondaire catholique Thériault, said local promoter Marc Ethier. There were five matches in total that night, with two being main events.

The first saw Scotty the Body defend his Canadian heavyweight championship against Anthony Darko.

In a loser eats dog food match, Cody Deaner won against Daddy Davis.

"The crowd went wild as they witnessed Davis eat real dog food (Deaner opened the can of wet dog food with an old school can opener inside the ring). There were 'gasps and ewwws' coming from the fans," said Ethier."

"I chose the Timmins and District Humane Society as I am a huge animal lover and wanted to do something for them. So I came up with the idea of having a 'loser eats dog food' match. It meshed well together as this type of match hasn't been seen in ages in all of professional wrestling and was definitely a first here in Timmins."

Local wrestling fans can catch the next charity event in the fall.
