The frigid embrace of winter was not enough to keep the crowds away on Remembrance Day.
A wide array of veterans, military personnel, service club members, local students and appreciative citizens gathered at Branch 287 of the Royal Canadian Legion in South Porcupine on Tuesday morning.
Legion members began assembling at 10:30, where school children, mounted police officers and others joined them in a march around the block before returning to the cenotaph for the ceremonies.
Among the people who laid wreaths were Mayor Tom Laughren, Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson, and longtime Ward 2 Councillor John Curley, on behalf of the Kinsmen.
Newly elected Councillors Joe Campbell (Ward 3) and Walter Wawrzaszek (Ward 2) along with re-elected Ward 4 Councillor Pat Bamford, also attended the ceremony.
