Iroquois Falls Mayor Tory Delaurier is running for the Conservatives in Timiskaming-Cochrane in the next provincial election.

IROQUOIS FALLS - A local mayor is eying a higher political seat.

Iroquois Falls Mayor Tory Delaurier has been acclaimed as the Progressive Conservative candidate for Timiskaming-Cochrane in the next provincial election.

"Every day, I see the hard work and determination of our communities. That’s what inspires me to fight for more investments in health care, infrastructure, and the skilled trades while ensuring our region has the resources it needs to thrive. Together, we’re building a stronger, brighter future for Northern Ontario," said Delaurier in a news release.

Delaurier is a proven leader who knows how to deliver results for the riding, said Premier Doug Ford in the news release.

"Tory is committed to building a stronger, more prosperous Northern Ontario. I’m excited to have him on our team as we continue working to improve the lives of families and businesses across the region," said Ford.

A sitting member of a municipal council can run for higher office, either provincially or federally. If elected, they have to resign their municipal seat.

John Vanthof has been the Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP since 2011. He has already announced that he's seeking another term under the NDP banner.

West Nipissing Coun. Kris Rivard is the Green Party candidate in the riding.

Provincially, people will head to the polls in June 2026 at the latest, though Premier Doug Ford is expected to call an election for spring 2025. Sitting MPPs were given until Dec. 1 to say if they're running again.
