TIMMINS - The temperatures in Timmins soared to a new high on Monday. 

On Sept. 16, the mercury hit 29.7 C, breaking the previous high of 26.1 C in 1968, according to Environment Canada data. The lowest temperature ever recorded on that day was -3.3 C in 1960.

Today (Sept. 17) is another hot one in the city. 

The highest temperature ever recorded for Sept. 17 was 27.2 C, which was also recorded in 1968. Just after 1 p.m., the local temperature was 27.1 C.

There is a heat warning in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls. 

The daytime humidex values could hit 36 C. Relief could be on the way, with the heat event expected to end this evening.
