The Town of Kapuskasing has issued a statement after its former chief administrative officer was charged with defrauding the municipality.
According to the OPP, between September 2014 and February 2015, Yvan Brousseau and Karl Hollett defrauded the town of about $800,000.
Brousseau served as the town’s CAO, but resigned in 2014 to take on the role of chief executive officer at Energie Kapuskasing Energy.
A statement from the Town of Kapuskasing, said that Mayor Al Spacek and council respects “the legal and criminal court processes that are in place.”
“The Municipality does not anticipate suffering a financial loss as a result of the matter disclosed in the Ontario Provincial Police’s press release and all solar projects contracted to date remain within budget.”
The police investigation started in June 2017.
Feb. 2, the OPP announced that Brousseau has been charged with fraud over $5,000, and breach of trust by a public officer.
Hollett has been charged with fraud over $5,000.
Both are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on March 19.
