Kinsmen continue to support hospital foundation (2 photos)

Donation helped hospital buy another Accuvein unit

The Porcupine Kinsmen Club is helping the hospital once again.

The group recently donated more than $9,000 to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation for another Accuvein device.

Kinsmen president Sam Barbuto and Kinsman Bingo's Ron Lafraniere were at the hospital recently to present the cheque.

The hand-held unit has a light that highlights veins. It is used primarily for infants and small children and is also used in adults who have bad veins.

In a news release, Barbuto said “we heard staff loved how Accuvein illuminates veins to help reduce the number of sticks needed to insert an IV."

“This additional donation will benefit more areas of the hospital and decrease discomfort and anxiety for patients," he said.

This is the second time the club has helped the hospital buy one of the units.

Earlier this year, an $8,300 donation from the club allowed the hospital to purchase its second Accuvein.

The hospital foundation is grateful to the Porcupine Kinsmen Club.

"Funds donated to the Foundation go towards new equipment purchases and infrastructure upgrades, which is not covered by government operational funds,” says Barb McCormick, Manager of Donor Relations, TADH Foundation.
