NEWS RELEASE
COCHRANE DISTRICT CRIME STOPPERS
*****************************
Summer took a long time getting here this year but it’s here now. And many of you are enjoying access to our northern Crown Lands. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry would like to remind those of you who do camp on Crown Land that we need to share these spaces.
Under the Occupation of Public Lands Act, Canadian residents can camp on Crown Land for free up to 21 days on one site in a calendar year. After 21 days, you must move your camp site a minimum of 100 metres to another location. This temporary use ensures that sites are available to others and helps reduce environmental impacts.
The MNRF would also like to remind you to:
- take out what you brought in including all camping gear and garbage
- respect other users of Crown Land
- respect all things natural
- and never leave a fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before you leave
Our natural resources are an important part of living in the North and it is the responsibility of each of us to protect and respect those resources.
If you see or know of anyone who is dis respecting our natural resources call Crime Stoppers right now at 1-800-222-TIPS, use the internet at www.P3tips.com or download the P3 app.
If your information leads to an arrest, you could be eligible to earn up to $2,000 in cash. You will remain anonymous and will not have to testify in court. That is our promise to you, the tipster.
See something, hear something, do something. Call Crime Stoppers.
