TIMMINS - A local group is ready to turn the town green and white as it celebrates its new building.

The Centre culturel La Ronde has four days of fun and activities planned from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28.

The official opening is being held nearly a year after the organization moved into the new building.

The previous building suffered irreparable damage in a 2015 fire and was demolished in 2017. Before the doors to the new modern facility opened, the group worked out of a Kent Street building and later out of a space at the Timmins Square.

This week's action kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 25, which is Franco-Ontarian flag day.

Mountjoy Street North will be closed between Algonquin Boulevard and Fifth Avenue from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the building at the corner of Algonquin and Mountjoy Street.

Francophone schools are making the trip to the new building for a flag-raising and performances by special guests Jojo and Brian.

In the evening, a wine and cheese reception is being held for the major donors to the project. It will feature live music by pianist Tim Sullivan, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the unveiling of the wall of recognition.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Bel Âge group is hosting its first friendship supper in the Caisse Alliance Hall. After the meal, there will be cards and darts.

L'Armise's — the bar at La Ronde — is officially opening on Friday, Sept. 27. Les Bilinguish Boys are tuning up for a night of fun, laughter and entertainment. The show starts at 8 p.m., with tickets available online here.

The festivities wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 28 when a brunch is being served up from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will feature eggs, sausages, pancakes, pastries, beverages and more.

There will be face painting and a 50/50 lottery to support the children's programming at the centre as well. At 2 p.m., the magical Fredo is on stage for his show An elephant in the room. The show is free for members.
