BLACK RIVER-MATHESON - Matheson experienced an unexpected hiccup during the live stream of its inaugural council meeting last night (Aug. 27).

The township issued a statement Wednesday (Aug. 28) saying the laptop used to record the meeting went to sleep and the ceremony wasn't recorded.

"We fully understand the monumental and historical significance of this event for our community. We sincerely regret that this issue impacted the public's ability to watch the proceedings live or access the recording afterwards," said clerk-treasurer Cassandra Child in the statement.

"However, we remained fully compliant with the open meetings requirements under the Municipal Act, 2001, by ensuring the meeting was accessible to the public in person, even with the capacity limitations."

According to the statement, the laptop went into sleep mode, which interrupted the live stream and prevented the recording from being available for later viewing. The township acknowledged there was no contingency plan to address the unexpected technical difficulties.

A professional photographer took photos, which will be available to the public on the township’s website.

The township said the incident is a learning opportunity and it's committed to improving its technical protocols.

“We appreciate your understanding and are taking steps to ensure that such disruptions do not occur in the future,” Child wrote.
