opportunity ahead stock

The Timmins Learning Centre's new literacy workshop is launching this week.

The organization announced the monthly learning series last month on Family Literacy Day.

Goal-setting Literacy is the topic for the first session taking place Thursday, Feb. 15. It's being led by Chandra Ciccone, who will teach strategies for creating meaningful goals, and finding the motivation, focus and support to see them through.

The other workshops planned are:

March 22, Employee Standards Literacy with Jamie Roach of First Source HR. Learn about Bill 148 (the minimum wage increase) and how it will affect you as an employee.

April 19, Cultural Awareness Literacy with Alana Graham of HUB workshops – NAN Legal Services. Learn about cultural topics including spirituality, art, music, dance, and health-promoting practices.

May 17, Food Literacy with Jennifer Vachon of Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins. Learn about food security, how to increase your skills in the kitchen, and increase access to healthy and affordable food.

The events are taking place at the Timmins Learning Centre, 208 Third Ave., and a light lunch will be served. The sessions are free for TLC members, or $5 for non-members.

To register for the events, email [email protected] or call 705-268-8900.
