A Timmins mining company is giving back this holiday season.
Newmont Porcupine is donating $130,000 through its Helping Helpers initiative that supports organizations dealing with homelessness and food insecurity.
Through the fund, 13 organizations in Timmins and Chapleau are receiving $10,000 each to help with the influx of clients during the pandemic.
“We would like to take this opportunity to recognize these organizations for all their hard work this year. 2020 has been a very challenging year and we would like to do our part to support the communities where our employees live and work,” said Bryan Neeley, Newmont Porcupine manager of sustainability and external relations, in a news release.
“The goal is to assist these organizations provide the much-needed service to our communities. We have a history of unwavering support to our communities and that has continued as part of ongoing efforts to support host communities through the pandemic.”
The Timmins recipients are: First Baptist Church Community Food Bank, H.O.P.E Comfort Kits & Community Outreach, Living Space, Project Love, The Timmins Native Friendship Centre, The Good Samaritan Inn, The Lord’s Kitchen Society, Timmins Food Bank, Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, South Porcupine Food Bank and the Yo Mobile.
In Chapleau, donations will be made to the Pentecostal Church Food Bank and the Sacred Heart Church Food Bank.
