A drive-in movie theatre is still setting up in town later this month, but the location has changed.
The Horizon Drive-In is holding a pop-up drive in theatre in Timmins Aug. 21 for two screenings, Grease at 9 p.m., and IT at 11:30 p.m.
It is now being held at Kamiskotia Snow Resort in the city's west end.
"We're excited to be able to bring this great event to the community of Timmins," said Benjamin Mackenzie, Horizon Drive In owner.
Originally, it was announced that the event would be at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.
City corporate communications co-ordinator Heather Duhn sent a statement on the event yesterday.
"Please be advised, there are current news articles stating a drive-in theatre will be hosted at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex on Aug. 21. The City would like to confirm that this is not accurate, and the lot has not been booked for this event," she wrote.
Kamiskotia Snow Resort board chair Cameron Grant said they're pleased to partner with Horizon to offer Timmins and surrounding areas the unique experience.
"This pandemic has weighed heavily on our community, which has done its best to mitigate the spread, and this drive-in movie theatre will provide much-needed solace for our youth and a bit of nostalgia for our more seasoned movie goers. While eager to receive patrons, Kamiskotia asks only that patrons adhere to provincial guidelines, so that everyone can enjoy the evening," he said.
Tickets for the shows are available online.
They are $15 for a car, which also admits one person. Additional adults are $15 each and children are $10 each.
Mackenzie said ticket sales have been great and they've sold about 30 per cent so far.
He said they're hoping to draw a family crowd for Grease, and the youth and horror lovers for the late show.
