Lumber mill fire damage 'very significant'

The last truck cleared the scene at noon today, more than 12 hours after the blaze was reported

A fire at a Timmins lumber mill kept fire crews busy all night.

Around 8 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 26), the Timmins Fire Department was called to the scene of a blaze at 449 Feldman Rd. It's the location of Normand Verville Enterprises Ltd., which manufactures products such as drill core boxes, lathe for sawmills, kiln stickers and wood pallets.

The manufacturing mill is a "complete loss", said acting deputy fire chief Scott Atkinson.

"The dollar amount of the loss has not been determined, but is very significant. Crews did an excellent job fighting this fire with no injuries reported," he said.

Crews were on scene all night, with the last truck clearing the scene around noon today.

The cause of the fire is not known yet.

To help battle the blaze last night, the fire department appealed to the public to avoid the area so that crews could access Feldman Road and the nearby fire hydrants.
