One of the biggest fundraisers for the MADD Timmins chapter is coming up this weekend.

The annual Red Ribbon Silent Auction and Victims' Vigil is Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Dante Club.

There will be donations from throughout the community for people to bid on, brunch, and as well as a vigil for the people lost to impaired driving and for survivors of impaired crashes in the community.

MADD Timmins media co-ordinator Amy St. Amour said the chapter president Tina Saudino, who is a survivor of an impaired crash, will also be speaking.

"Her story is very powerful and I think a lot of us in the community can relate to some of the emotions that she’s been through with it as well and if not we hope that it makes an impact for anybody else that might be listening to think twice before getting behind the wheel,” said St. Amour.

Tickets for the event are $20 per person and $10 for kids under 13 years. They are available by sending them a message on Facebook or you can stop by the Timmins Police Station and ask for St. Amour.

The event is also the kick off to the red ribbon campaign.

With the legalization of recreational marijuana, St. Amour said the organization's message is more passionate this year.

"We always talk about driving impaired by alcohol, but driving impaired by drug is now at the forefront of our thinking as well and it doesn’t matter what it is that you’re taking, or on, or using recreationally that we just ask that everybody chooses to not drive, find a safe way home, call a cab, get a ride by somebody sober,” she said.

If you suspect an impaired driver, Campaign 911 encourages people to report them.

St. Amour said the signs could be  a driver swerving in and out of lanes, driving way too slow or fast, and disregarding traffic signs.
