BLACK RIVER-MATHESON - The polls are closed for the Matheson byelection.

Tonight, the seven mayoral candidates are watching the results roll in with supporters.

Dave Dyment, Paul Fortin, Murray Horan, John MacKenzie, Linda Mercier, Chris Riach and Albert Royer are the candidates vying for the mayors seat. They're spread out across the municipality, many with some family and friends, awaiting the results.

The byelection was called by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, who declared all of the Matheson council seats vacant after council failed to meet quorum for meetings for 60 days earlier this year. The little-used section of the Municipal Act hasn't been exercised since it took effect in the early 2000s.

TimminsToday will share the election results as soon as they're available from the municipality.
