MATHESON - The Township of Black River-Matheson is reducing its office hours as the labour dispute continues in the community.

In a Facebook post published on the township’s page on Thursday (Jan. 4), the town said effective Monday, Jan. 8, there are new hours of operation due to the current lockout.

The office is closed to the public on Mondays, and open Tuesday to Thursday from 1-4:30 p.m. It's open Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to  4:30 p.m., but closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

The current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The township and CUPE Local 1490 members have been negotiating a new contract since March. The parties were in legal position for a strike or lockout on Oct. 15., which resulted in the township locking out the workers. Fourteen full-time municipal workers are affected by the labour dispute.
