After being encouraged to "be more visible", Timmins Mayor George Pirie has launched a website and social media page.
Both are branded as George Pirie - Let's Build A Better Tomorrow.
Pirie was elected in the 2018 municipal election. It is the first political seat he's held.
After winning the election he stepped away from social media "which is not the appropriate place to govern a community," according to the website.
In an email, Pirie said he's been encouraged to "be more visible which has been difficult during the last year other (than) when we were in front of the media daily."
"On numerous occasions when I call to talk to individuals to discuss issues the answer I receive as to why they are not informed is that they do not read the local press, do not follow council meetings and do not pay attention to the City’s web page," he said.
"Consequently I (chose) this vehicle and will try other vehicles as well."
The next municipal election is in October 2022.
Provincially, Ontarians will be heading to the polls on June 2, 2022 unless the current government calls an election before then. At the federal level, an election isn't slated until 2023, however, with a minority government, Canadians can head to the polls before then.
Pirie did not answer if he's seeking re-election for the mayor's seat.
"The questions regarding whether or not I am seeking candidacy (at another level) will be answered with time," he said.
