Proceeds to Purchase Essential Surgical Equipment for Hospital’s Surgical Program

McDougall Energy representatives attended the Timmins and District Hospital this morning for a cheque presentation to the TADH Foundation’s 2013-2016 Capital Campaign – Building for tomorrow’s healthcare today.

Presenting the $10,000 cheque on behalf of the company were Ken O’Neill, Operations Manager, Timmins, McDougall Energy and Martyn Iles, Senior Fuels Account Executive, Fuels Marketing – Wholesales & Specialties, Imperial Oil (Imperial).

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation were Jean-Paul Aubé, 2013-2016 Capital Campaign Chair; Josée Jean RN, Surgical Program Manager; Claire Geoffroy, Surgical Unit Manager; and Janna Burke, TADH Foundation Executive Director.

“To have McDougall Energy make such a substantial contribution to the 2013-2016 Capital Campaign is truly remarkable,” stated Jean-Paul Aubé, 2013-2016 Capital Campaign Chair. “We are most appreciative of the fact that this family business that started in Northern Ontario has chosen to support our district hospital which serves people from all over the North,” added Aubé.

“In 1945, our family started in the petroleum business with my grandfather working with Imperial Oil in Timmins. Now over 70 years later, it is a privilege to continue to serve our customers in Timmins and the surrounding communities,” said Darren McDougall, President of McDougall Energy. “On behalf of our Timmins team, extended families and our partner, Imperial, we are pleased to support health-care excellence in Northern Ontario through our support of Timmins & District Hospital Foundation,” continued McDougall.

“Imperial and McDougall Energy have a long and proud history, and we are pleased to support the Timmins & District Hospital Foundation via the Esso Community Program,” stated Martyn B. Iles, Senior Fuels Account Executive, Fuels Marketing – Wholesale & Specialties, Imperial Oil. “The funds, earmarked for your surgical program, will enable the purchase of the Glidescope as well as a Cavitron, both urgently required to replace broken equipment,” continued Iles. “The Esso Community Program was created to support initiatives that have a positive impact on the community, as well as reinforce the commitment of Esso-branded retailers and associates to the communities where their customers live.”

Thanks to the generosity of this third generation family businesses, TADH will be able to purchase two pieces of much-needed medical equipment for the hospital’s surgical program.

The first item, a GlideScope, is a video laryngoscope which provides a consistently clear, real-time view of the airway and tube placement, enabling quick intubation.

“On average, the GlideScope is used at least once per day in the operation room,” stated Josée Jean RN, Surgical Program Manager, TADH. “This essential piece of equipment enables quick intubation for airway management in a variety of settings including difficult, routine and trauma airways for our preterm and neonatal patients, morbidly obese patients and patients requiring cervical spine immobilization” added Jean.

The second item that will be purchased with the company’s generous donation is the Cavitron which is a dental hygiene instrument used in the operating room for dental surgery.

Basically, it works by applying high-frequency vibrations which, when placed against the tooth, removes deposits.

Last year, TADH performed 359 dental procedures.

About Timmins and District Hospital Foundation

From the James Bay coast to Engleheart, from Hearst to Kirkland Lake, Timmins and District Hospital is the beating heart of a vast, beautiful and vibrant region.

We hold the well-being of over 115,000 people in our hands...and they, in turn, hold our fate in theirs.

As the largest hospital in Northeast Ontario, TADH is poised on the brink of a new era in healthcare for this region.

To meet the growing and changing needs of the families we serve, the facilities and equipment of our hospital must be renewed. Not years from now, but now.

Outdated, cramped, with an aging building and obsolete equipment, TADH is long past due for a revitalization that will enable us to take our District’s healthcare into the future.
