Every week, the Timmins Kinette Club is celebrating women in the community with its Modern-Day Rosie initiative. The campaign honours women who are innovators, volunteers, entrepreneurs and visionaries empowering other women. TimminsToday has partnered with the club to introduce our readers to inspiring local leaders. To submit a nomination, email [email protected].
Tammy McIntyre develops leaders!
We are pleased to add Tammy to the ranks of Modern-Day Rosies. She is the corporate store manager of Giant Tiger in the Porcupine Mall. She holds an executive board member seat for the nonprofit senior's retirement home Spruce Hill Lodge and sits on the board for the City of Timmins Housing Committee. When her five now-grown children were in school, she volunteered to run the breakfast and lunch programs at various elementary schools. She never shies away from supporting local ventures and events, often donating time and goods for the improvement of her community.
Our latest Modern-Day Rosie has the reputation of being a hands-on manager who loves to see the people she works and volunteers with reach their greatest potential when given the tools, time, and opportunity.
She shares: “I think you have to be passionate about developing emerging leaders around you — always work on your own emotional intelligence and recognize the importance of a strong team culture regardless of what sector you work in.”
Tammy works diligently to create gender inclusivity in the workplace and beyond. “I think female leadership has been quietly influencing our communities all along - women have historically led the charge in creating volunteer programs for our vulnerable groups of society, we have been the caregivers, the molders and teachers of those young minds, adaptable, do what needs to be done to make things happen - we are now just becoming more visible with the evolution of a more inclusive workforce.”
She feels that through this visibility, a new voice is starting to break down barriers to make it easier to have access to full civic, social and economic rights. Women bring leadership that values both integrity and transparency, contributing to improved accountability that works toward improving the oppressive environment that has impacted women, minority groups and other vulnerable people.
Our Rosie has had the opportunity to mentor many youths. Her message to them is: “Be adaptable — be willing to shift gears and change direction without hesitation. Don't waste time on what was or what didn't turn out — keep moving forward — there is always a way. Resilience is key, never give up. Change your angle of view, learn from the attempts that didn't work out. Be as transparent as possible, do everything with integrity, kindness, and always be humble. Never rule anyone out — there is a lesson to be learned from every person you interact with. People will surprise you when you let them know you value and believe in them.”
“I have been very fortunate over the years to have found many great business mentors within the companies I have worked for, as well, I have had the pleasure of working with some great minds on volunteer and community projects. I feel that I am still being mentored every day — in every interaction with people - we have so much to learn and gain and improve just by simply, listening to and observing every person we interact with.”
Thank you, Tammy, for developing future leaders. We are positive that more Modern-Day Rosies will emerge because of your influence and impact!
