The Northeastern Catholic District School Board of Trustees welcomes Emma Weltz, a Grade 11 student at O’Gorman High School, to her new role as the 2016-17 Student Trustee on the Board of Trustees.

Rick Brassard, Board Chair commented, “It is a pleasure for me to welcome Miss Weltz as the incoming 2016-17 Student Trustee on our Board. We look forward to receiving her monthly updates about life at O’Gorman High School and we know that her enthusiasm and youthful energy will serve our board well.”

The following answers were provided by our new 2016-17 NCDSB Student Board Trustee, Emma Weltz:

Why did you want to become the NCDSB Student Trustee Representative?

I think that this will be a great opportunity for me to represent O’Gorman High School.  I am an active OHS student and take pride in my school community.

I see this as an excellent chance for me to highlight the many opportunities, experiences, and activities that take place in our school. I would also like to learn more about Catholic education and be an active agent of change.

What do you like the most about O’Gorman High School?

There are many different things I like about O’Gorman High School.  I appreciate the opportunities I am afforded to participate in various sports and activities.

The teachers and staff are very caring and welcoming. There is a lot of spirit in our school, and we consider ourselves to be more of a family than just a school.

Why is Catholic Education important?

Learning in a Catholic school is the only experience I have. I think that students in our schools are lucky to be able to come together in prayer, reflect on key gospel teachings, and have many opportunities to experience virtue development and compassion.

We are encouraged to build personal relationships with God and our church.

What is your favourite hobby?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends and I love to travel.  I spend a lot of my extra time playing basketball and living a healthy, active life.

What are your future educational plans?

I plan on attending university to study in the field of health sciences. I am not entirely sure what direction I will go, but I am exploring a career in nursing, medicine or physiotherapy. I am still curious about a career in law as well.

I really hope to pursue playing basketball at the post-secondary level as well and am hopeful to earn a scholarship of some kind to allow me to play ball while continuing my studies.

Any further comments?

Thank you for this opportunity. I would appreciate any direction from the Board of Trustees or staff to help me create monthly reports of value and interest to the Board.
