TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 2 (South Porcupine) candidate Jean Fex's:
I was born and raised in Hanmer Ont, a small town just outside of Sudbury. Once I completed high school, I joined our Armed Forces and spent a tour in Germany.
After the forces, I studied business.
I am currently employed with Metro in the Porcupine Mall and presently managing the store.
I also own and operate two local businesses.
Total Home by John Fex, a renovation business and On The Move by John Fex, a local moving and salvage business.
In my 35 years of work, I have managed renovation businesses since the age of 23.
Owned and sold three businesses that are still around to this day.
I am a proud husband to Catherine. A father of two and adopted parent to my grandson.
We also have a certified foster home.
I am community minded and involved with many charities with the youth in our community being my priority.
I am now involved with a new beginning to a youth centre in South Porcupine.
I am a concerned homeowner of Timmins going on 20 years and I have worked at Metro Porcupine the last 15.
I believe a member of council should have some experience in business, marketing, accounting and sitting on boards.
We need to gather members that can bring forward a business plan to not only be fiscally responsible but also to put plans in place to help us move forward.
With my life experiences, I believe we can put short and long term plans in affect to meet not only the basic needs but bring forward a momentum to a brighter future.
With nine years of board experience as president of the co-operative movement, accounting background, business background and drive to succeed, I believe I am a good choice to help in leading our city. Making it prosperous and a place for our children to enjoy and thrive.
My plan is to not only upgrade and maintain but also move us forward with long-term benefits.
