TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 3 (Schumacher) candidate Donna Dorrington's:
Donna Dorrington is a candidate running to bring renewed energy to Ward 3.
Donna is running for city council for three reasons: to invest in the future by creating a community plan with a focus on safety, economic viability and arts and culture, to promote quality of life, and to stand for the values of the neighbourhood.
She lives in Ward 3 with her husband and four of their children. The fifth recently graduated from university and works here as a social worker.
Believing that Timmins would be an ideal place to live and work, Donna moved here in 2005 to work for Legal Aid Ontario. Later working at Evans, Bragagnolo and Sullivan LLP and, in 2013 started her own business Dorrington and Associates.
Today, Donna is the treasurer of Timmins BIA and is a board member of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce. She previously sat on the boards for Community Living Timmins, Timmins and District Victim Services and was the professional chair for the United Way.
Born in Sudbury, her mother was a waitress and father an underground miner with Inco for 35 years. Donna has two sisters who also live here.
Inspired by her parent’s belief in her, Donna pursued a degree in political science at Laurentian University and then went to Queen’s University as a single mother, earning her law degree in 2003. Donna has continued her parent’s commitment by establishing the Jean Dorrington Memorial Scholarship which provides scholarships to young parents graduating high school and who are going on to post-secondary studies.
This election is about the future of our city. We need to keep our neighbourhoods moving forward. Donna embodies the bold and vibrant leadership that is the signature of Ward 3.
